1st Weare Guides
Weare School Monday evening
6.30 – 8.00pm. (term time only)
The joining age is 10, guides stay with the unit for four years, achieving yearly challenge badges – the older guides are encouraged to achieve their Baden Powell Challenge Badge before going on to Rangers. Currently 28 girls attend weekly – and a waiting list is currently in operation.
All Guides whatever age work together in small groups and are encouraged to think for themselves and make their own decisions. They have a balanced and varied programme, caring for the individual and share a commitment to a common standard.
Within this framework the girls are given opportunities to have fun, learn new skills, interact with others, enjoy the outdoors and undertake exciting and challenging activities.
The programme during 2008 has included themed evenings, craft events, cooking outdoors, helping in the Community, tobogganing, rafting and canoeing, team building, camp p reparation, Go for It experiences and Interest badges not forgetting our annual camp and the Big Gig Pop Concert. Supporting the Macmillan Coffee morning had Guides (and Guiders) abseiling down Cheddar Gorge there is always something ‘going on’.
"I’m new at Guides and I think it is great! I have fun meeting new people and making friends. Everybody is really nice and it’s impossible to feel lonely because there is always someone to go and talk to. We do loads of different activities, like go-karting, canoeing and we get to go to a music concert called the ‘Big Gig’ which is a ‘guides only’ event. I think guides is a great place to learn new things and just have fun." RO Do you want to know more then contact one of us: Weare Guide leaders:

Helpers! Guiding units in the Axbridge District are always on the look out for more adult help. If you are interested in helping regularly or just every now and then in any way please do contact us. This is the case for all age groups – Rainbows (5-7), Brownies (7-10) and Guides (10-14). We really appreciate all the support we receive from parents/helpers and this can come in all forms – helping test badges or at a meeting if we are short of an adult, transporting girls to a different venue for a meeting or more specialist things such as helping keep unit accounts. This all helps us to run the units more smoothly around our own busy lives! If you are interested please contact Ros. Prince (01934 710261), Juliet Dormer 1st Weare Brownies (01934 741875) or Annette Bowle (01278 787189), Axbridge District Commissioner.
