Wedmore’s new opera, Eleanor Vale, is set in a Somerset village in 1900. It deserves to be seen by as many people as possible, so we plan to hire a large theatre tent which will be sited in the Wedmore First School field. The excerpt that we have heard makes us feel that both participants and audience are in for a treat, both musically and dramatically. Peter Cann’s powerful story is being brought to musical life by John Barber’s striking and catchy score, and we can’t wait to get to work on it. This world premiere production will take place in the week ending Saturday July 14, 2012.

The children’s chorus will have its first meeting on Sunday March 11 from 4.00 pm until 5.00 pm in Wedmore Village Hall. This will be an introduction to the opera, and an opportunity for your child to register his/her interest. Attendance at this get-together does not automatically ensure a chance to sing in the opera as we have to place a limit on numbers. Kate Lynch will be training the children, using her unique skills to make these sessions informative and fun. If you have a child who would like to be involved and who is in Years 4 – 8, or you would like to know more, please contact me. This promises to be a unique and exciting opportunity offering the chance to sing to an audience of 500 people or more in the big theatre tent accompanied by a live orchestra. There will be a need for one or two parents to act as chaperones both at rehearsals and performances on a rotational basis.

Thanks to the generosity of Rob and Camille Greacen, there will be a fund-raising event for Wedmore Opera - a dinner with entertainment - on the evening of Sunday 11th March at The Swan, Wedmore. Details will be announced later, but as tickets are likely to be in limited supply you can register your interest now by contacting Camille at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
