Allerton church is situated at one end of Front Street in Chapel Allerton, and the Parish encompasses Stone Allerton too. Allerton is in a joint benefice with the parish of Mark just 3 miles away.
The church is at the centre of village life in the Allerton villages. Our Church is lively and social, with many groups involved in our worship, special events or helping with the maintenance of the church and churchyard. We have .a choir, flower arrangers, cleaners, a churchyard mowing rota and much more.
If you are interested in joining in our worship and helping in any other way we would be delighted to see you - please contact our churchwardens to find out more.

August letter from Geoffrey Fenton – Parish Priest
I don’t know about you, but it seems to me as though the Autumn is the best time to start something new – the summer is far too busy and New Year’s resolutions rarely last a week! This Autumn I will have been here 2 years (how time has flown) and I’ve got to know a fair amount about how the benefice ticks – though a full knowledge would probably need at least 50 years!.
So it seems to me that this autumn is a good time to suggest some changes to what we do, in particular to try tweaking our service pattern so that what we offer is more inclusive of young families and people who don’t have a strong church-going background. Some of you will already have been at meetings in both Mark and Allerton where we’ve discussed making some changes and, given that the response has been very positive, I’d like now to widen the discussion to see if we can come up with any better plans.
The main change we’re suggesting is to have a shorter, non-communion Family Service on the first Sunday of the month in both Allerton and Mark, replacing the Family Communion we currently have. This would be a relaxed and informal service where I’d hope everyone would feel welcome and included, and where a variety of people could join in from time to time to contribute music, drama, stories, creative stuff, etc, not forgetting coffee and cakes! (The Pet Service was a bit like this).
To allow people to receive communion on the first Sunday, we would have an 8am “Said Communion” in Mark, like we did on the Pet Service Sunday – when I was delighted that a significant number of people came.
Rather than over-burden the first Sunday, we’re then thinking of moving Evensong to the 3rd Sunday in the month, and also on that Sunday have a family-friendly communion service. The other two Sundays would have parish Communion as usual.
Whatever exact pattern we decide, we’d probably start the new pattern on 7th November – All Saints Day. Can you all think about this as you relax on the Costa del Sol, the Cornish Riviera or just the back garden this August? Any ideas welcome – just let me know or give your ideas to a churchwarden. We’ll finalise the plans at the September PCC meetings.
In the meantime, have a great summer!
With every blessing,
Geoffrey

Ring a bell?
No doubt, to the relief of some but to the disappointment of the many, the church bells have been silent. Their silence has been deafening and we'd be very interested in hearing from any of the younger members of the community who would be interested in learning how best to make the bells ring out. Once we've got some names Nina Reading is kindly going to use her contacts to fix an evening (or so) of instruction.
We are considering some possible minor changes to our weekly services - probably from the start of November Because it can all be a little confusing to those unfamiliar with the format of church services the proposal is to omit communion from the Family Service on the first Sunday of each month (for those who prefer to take communion this will be available at the 8am service to held in Mark). This also has the advantage of cutting down the time that those with very young children have to keep them on their best behaviour! The third Sunday in each month will then become a Village Communion suitable for all ages and particularly for young adolescents.
August is the Avalon Camp season and our thanks go to those who have volunteered to help in any way. Services on the first two Sundays in August will be combined services with Mark starting at 1030 am. Do come if you can because the services are always fun!
