Special Cheese & Wine EveningSaturday 28th February 2009
7.30p
Moorland Farm
Chapel Allerton
The Allertons Villages Website Committee hosted a Cheese and Wine Evening, which proved very successful, particularly because of the excellent cheeses on offer, selected by Tom Binks.
Guests were treated to wonderful local Cheddars, notably Barbers 1883, which really deserved to be alongside our Somerset 'apple drink'; a Blue Stilton from Cropwell Bishop, Bath Soft Cheese and award winning Brie and Camembert from Bretange and Normandie. All complemented by Alison's wonderful homemade chutney!
The stars of the occasion were a Wensleydale Blue, the original form of the well known White cheese and the most popular, in spite of the cholesterol warning, St Endellion Cornish Brie, which was really clotted cream with a Brie rind!
The Cheeses were suitably matched by the hostess Isobel Binks' homemade apple pie.
An extremely enjoyable evening was had by all and the Website Committee was presented with a cheque towards the costs of maintaining the website by Richard Cook on behalf Allerton Harvest Home.
