COMMUNITY BUS SERVICES FOR ALLERTON
There are no regular public transport buses serving Allerton, but there are three community style services that you could use:
Wedmore Community Bus This runs from to Wedmore to Weston-Super-Mare each Thursday, picking up people in Allerton at around 10 am, returning around 2 pm. Cost around £3.50 (free for anyone with a valid Travelpass). Seats should be pre-booked with Carol Ayliffe 01934 713471 between 6.oo-6.30pm on the evening preceding the journey. Within limits, passengers can be picked up at a point convenient to their home – controllers will advise. All drivers are volunteers who have undergone training to become accredited to drive the bus. For more details see www.wedmoregreengroup.co.uk/Travel/Community-Bus.aspx
Sedgemoor Slinky Bus. This operates each Thursday in the Wedmore/Burnham/Weston area. The route for the day is set by whoever books the bus first, so you have to book early to avoid disappointment Bookings can be made 2 weeks in advance. Cost around £2.00 (free for anyone with a valid Travelpass). You have to register with Mendip Community Transport before you can use this service – registration forms can be downloaded from the website. For more details, see the Mendip Community Transport website – www.mendipcommunitytransport.co.uk/slinkybus.shtml, or ring 01749 880948.
Falcon. These buses are run by Stagecoach between Plymouth and Bristol, approximately every hour in each direction. They stop on the A38 in Lower Weare, near the junction with Notting Hill Way, so they are a (comparatively) convenient and cheap way to get to the airport (£5.50) or Bristol (£6.50). More details on the user-friendly Stagecoach website at www.stagecoachbus.com
